The India Consumption Story: Roti, Kapda and Cellphones

Private consumption has been the most consistently growing component of GDP. Recently, however, there are signs of a slowdown. The Indian consumer has evolved to spending larger amounts on non-food items such as consumer durables, services and communication. The poor monsoon, inflation and falling real incomes may derail this trend.
